Staying Motivated To Improve Your Life
Sometimes you start to feel as though you might be stuck in a rut. It can be hard when you look through your Facebook and Instagram feeds – everyone’s lives seem to be absolutely perfect from the outside and it can make us feel bad about our own lives.
If that sounds familiar to you, here are a few things you can do to make yourself feel motivated about your life…
Get Fit And Healthy
First of all, it’s time to make sure that you’re as healthy as possible. Fitness isn’t about what you weigh or what size of jeans you can fit in – it’s about how you feel, how flexible you are, how far you can walk without feeling worn out, whether you can run up a flight of stairs without wheezing for breath when you get to the top.
If you’d like to start to feel more healthy, you could always book a few sessions with a personal trainer at your local gym. If that sounds a little extreme for you, you could always take up a yoga class or start to walk more often – walking is great for your whole body and ditching your car will also be good for the environment.
Learn To Cook
There’s very little that makes you feel better about yourself than learning a brand new skill – and if you’re looking around for something to do, why not choose cooking? The beauty of learning to cook isn’t only the fact that you can whip up dinner for yourself and your family with minimum hassle in the evenings – food is about more than that. The sharing of food at dinner time is part of an almost sacred ritual between family members and friends which give you a chance to talk about your days and to have a conversation.
Inviting your friends to your home and serving them food is about togetherness and generosity – learning to cook isn’t just about knowing how to poach an egg, it’s about finding your way into a more warm and inviting lifestyle. Not only that but once you know how to cook and the basics of nutrition, it’ll be a lot easier to make sure that you stay healthy.
Fix Your Body
If you don’t go to the doctor very often, then now is the time to change that. A lot of us have little niggles with our bodies that we tend to ignore – a bad back, blocked up sinuses, a slight deterioration in our vision that we’re trying to ignore because it’s hard to find time to go to the optician. If that rings a bell then it’s time to set everything else aside so that you can finally start to prioritize your own health.
Get a dental check-up to ensure that your teeth are in good condition and that they won’t start to cause you pain anytime soon, look into getting hearing aids if you’ve noticed that conversations simply aren’t as distinct as they used to be, and if you’re having any problems with your mental health then absolutely do not be nervous to talk to a medical professional about it to get some help – healing or finding coping mechanisms is the only way to be happy.
Change Your Working Life
If you simply aren’t happy at work, it’s time to make some changes. A lot of us don’t feel as valued or as listened to as we’d like to in our offices so it’s time to start asserting yourself more – talk to your boss in person instead of emailing over your ideas, and make sure that you carve out time to speak in your meetings. Becoming indispensable in your office is the best way to feel valued as people will start to realize just how great you are at your job and how important you are to the workings of your company.
If you think you should be earning more money than you currently are, it’s a good time to talk to your boss about that, particularly if you have an annual review coming up. Being fairly compensated for your work is crucial and you need to make sure that your work and your contributions are respected to stay motivated. Remember that a lot of the time, if you don’t ask for something, there’s no way that you’ll get it – suggest a figure above what you’d like to earn so that you and your boss can find a halfway point and compromise there. Remember that talking about money isn’t an ugly thing to do – you shouldn’t work for free.
Find The Love You Deserve
Finally, if you don’t feel fulfilled in your romantic life then now is the time to change that. If you’re already with someone who doesn’t make you feel as loved as you’d like to be, it’s time to start communicating better with them – ask them to make sure that you feel valued and consider how exactly to talk about any problems that you might have without causing any fights or more problems.
Remember that breaking up with your partner doesn’t mean that the relationship is a disaster or that it’s failed – the ending of it simply means that you’re moving on from that stage in your life to something that’s better and that will potentially make you a lot happier.
If you’re single, now could be the time to get motivated to find the love of your life if that’s what you want. Make sure that you go out as much as possible. A lot of people meet partners at bars or parties, but if you want to focus on your hobbies then you might also meet someone that you’re interested in at a creative writing or art class, for example. Make sure that you’re open to possibilities and that you give people a fair chance – remember that no one is perfect and that even if there isn’t an initial spark, that can happen over time as you work out how kind and funny your potential partner might be. Those qualities are the ones that will last a lifetime.
Life is beautiful but there are times it’s hard to stay motivated, I hope these tips help
