Obviously, toothache isn’t particularly pleasant, we don’t want to have to fork out for expensive dental care bills, and we don’t want to have to deal with the discomfort of any work that our teeth need. Create a brushing routine

Forgetting to brush your teeth, rushing in the job, or not covering the full area of your mouth are pretty terrible habits to get into. Not brushing your teeth properly allows plaque and bacteria to build up, leading to gum disease, bad breath, and eventually tooth decay. Rather than leaving brushing to chance, create a routine so you never miss out.

Brush twice a day at the same time, more than half an hour after food as the acid can make the hard coating of your teeth softer, so brushing can erode it leaving sensitive teeth which are more prone to cavities. Make sure you brush for two minutes each time, focussing for 30 seconds on each quarter of your mouth and a few seconds on your tongue. Once you’re in a routine, you’ll become far less prone to forgetting.

 

Never forget to floss

Brushing your teeth isn’t the only important part of dental care – you need to floss too. Flossing after each meal, or at least once a day, removes food from between your teeth which can cause irritation to gum, and also become a yummy lunch for the bacteria which will also erode your teeth. It only takes a minute or so to floss after each meal, and it’s one of the best habits you can get into.

Try to see them at least yearly for the best results.

 

Keep the bad food and drinks to a minimum

Obviously, the food and drink we consume have a huge impact on the health of our teeth. Although we are told to eat fruit and veg to be healthy, fruit can actually be high in sugar and acid, which can cause decay in our teeth, so try to limit their presence in your diet. Coffee, soda, red wine, and nicotine are all the leading causes of stained teeth, so keeping those to a minimum will help you to keep your pearly whites nice and bright.

    Studies seem to show that flossing is overrated. The NYtimes wrote about last year.
